چکیده

Antibacterial activities of the methanolic extracts Stypopodium schimperi (Kützing) Verlaque and Boudouresque, Halopteris filicina (Grateloup) Kützing, Dictyota dichotoma (Hudson) J.V.Lamouroux, Gracilaria bursa-pastoris (S.G.Gmelin) P.C.Silva, Ulva intestinalis Linnaeus species from Iskenderun Bay, Turkey against Escherichia coli, Bacillus cereus, Staphylococcus aureus, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Salmonella typhimurium Proteus vulgaris were evaluated by using microdilution method. Results study showed that all had an antimicrobial effect on tested bacteria. A minimum inhibitor concentration bactericidal concentrations ranged >125 to <0.39 mg mL-1. Furthermore, this is first report antibacterial effects S. Boudouresque G. P.C.Silva species. The present findings revealed studied seaweed could act as a natural source bioactive compounds for treatment infectious diseases.

Antibacterial Activities of Extracts from Twelve Centaurea Species from Turkey

Members of the genus Centaurea (Asteraceae) have been used in traditional plant-based medicine. The methanol extracts of twelve Centaurea species, of which five are endemic to Turkey flora, were screened for antibacterial activity against four bacteria (Escherichia coli, Bacillus cereus, Salmonella enteritidis, Staphylococcus aureus). The antibacterial activity was evaluated by the microdilutio...

Antioxidant activities of enzymatic extracts from brown seaweeds.

Potential antioxidative activities of enzymatic extracts from seven species of brown seaweeds were evaluated using four different reactive oxygen species (ROS) scavenging assays containing DPPH (1,1-diphenyl-2-pricrylhydrazyl) free radical, superoxide anion, hydroxyl radical and hydrogen peroxide scavenging assay. The brown seaweeds were enzymatically hydrolyzed to prepare water-soluble extract...

Antiprotozoal Activities of Organic Extracts from French Marine Seaweeds

Marine macrophytes contain a variety of biologically active compounds, some reported to have antiprotozoal activity in vitro. As a part of a screening program to search for new natural antiprotozoals, we screened hydroalcoholic and ethyl acetate extracts of 20 species of seaweeds from three phyla (Rhodophyta, Heterokontophyta and Chlorophyta), sampled along the Normandy (France) coast. We teste...

Comparison of antibacterial activities of Ircinia mutans extracts in two different seasons from Kish Island, Persian Gulf, Iran

Sponges, which constitute the phylum Porifera, are the most primitive of the multicellular animals, among all marine organisms screened. Marine sponges produce the largest number of structurally diversified natural products. In this study we investigated in vitro antimicrobial activity of Ircinia mutans collected from the Kish Island in the Persian Gulf against strains of bacteria Escherichia c...
